Maryland: Out of Kids’ Hands
Legislative Updates
As we prepare for the 2026 legislative session, we are actively seeking a sponsor to reintroduce this critical youth-protection bill in Maryland. Maryland House Bill 884 was introduced in the 2025 legislative session and represented an important step toward protecting minors from dangerous over-the-counter diet pills. While the bill did not advance, it helped lay the groundwork for stronger safeguards in future sessions. As work begins for the upcoming session, advocates are actively seeking a co-sponsor to reintroduce this legislation and continue building momentum for youth protections.
Bill Information
Originally introduced in the 2025 legislative session, Public Health – Sale of Diet Pills to Minors – Prohibition (HB 884) would restrict the sale of diet pills to individuals under 18 unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. The bill proposed key safeguards, including behind-the-counter or locked placement, age verification for in-person and online sales, and penalties for violations, to ensure retailers limit youth access. These provisions remain central as efforts move toward reintroducing the bill in the next session.
