Virginia: Out of Kids’ Hands

Legislative Updates

Virginia House Bill 1585, introduced in the 2025 legislative session, aims to protect minors from harmful over-the-counter diet pills and dietary supplements by prohibiting their sale to individuals under the age of 18. By implementing age verification measures both in-store and online, this bill ensures that these products are only accessible to adults. We are excited to advocate for the health and safety of young Virginians.

Thank you Virginia Delegate Baxter Ennis for championing this bill to protect young people from dangerous weight loss dietary supplements and over-the-counter diet pills.

Bill Information

Introduced by Virginia Delegate Baxter Ennis in the 2025 session, HB1585 would restrict the sale of over-the-counter diet pills and dietary supplements for weight loss or muscle building to minors. It requires age verification in-store and online, and mandates that products be kept behind counters or in locked cases to prevent unauthorized access. This is the first time the bill has been filed in Virginia.
