HB 884 was introduced in 2025 and later withdrawn by its sponsor. The legislation was not reintroduced during the 2026 legislative session, which adjourned on April 13, 2026. Advocates are looking ahead to the 2027 legislative session to continue efforts in Maryland.

Originally introduced by Delegate Jared Solomon Vogel in the 2025 legislative session, Public Health – Sale of Diet Pills to Minors – Prohibition (HB 884) would have restricted the sale of diet pills to individuals under 18 unless accompanied by a parent or guardian or provided with a prescription. The bill included safeguards such as restricted product placement, age verification for in-person and delivery sales, and civil penalties for violations.
