Community and Belonging

Addressing today’s most pressing public health challenges requires collaboration across disciplines, perspectives, and lived experiences. In the Department of Epidemiology, we believe that when every member of our community can participate fully and contribute their ideas and expertise, we strengthen both our scholarship and our ability to improve population health. Our efforts align with the work of the Office for Community and Belonging, which helps cultivate environments across the School where individuals are supported, respected, and empowered to contribute. By fostering open dialogue, collaboration, and shared purpose, we aim to create a department where people can grow, learn from one another, and advance solutions that improve health and well-being in communities around the world.

In the Department of Epidemiology members of our community connect through a range of events and shared experiences that make the department both intellectually vibrant and an exciting environment to work, teach, and grow. Throughout the year, we host signature events such as the Cutter Lectures on Preventive Medicine / Symposia, John Graunt Society, Kolokotrones and Freeman-Seage Symposia, the Department of Epidemiology seminar series, volunteer service outings, and our teaching assistant awards, that create opportunities to showcase research, exchange ideas, and celebrate the achievements that shape our department. These moments foster a sense of energy, creativity, and community that makes Epidemiology a place where people enjoy learning, collaborating, and contributing to an innovative research, teaching, and working environment.
