Nutrition and Global Health Research and Training Program
The Nutrition and Global Health Program is a collaborative effort between the Department of Nutrition and the Department of Global Health and Population at the Harvard Chan School. Our interdisciplinary approach to teaching and research allows us to address a wide range of global health issues.
Welcome
Our goal is to train and prepare a new generation of health professionals with the skills needed to tackle complex health challenges through innovative research and practical solutions.
Our vibrant community includes esteemed faculty who are leaders in their fields, students from diverse backgrounds united by a common goal of improving global health, and a robust network of collaborators, such as universities, research institutions, NGOs, and governmental bodies, both across the United States and internationally. Together, we conduct research, engage in fieldwork, and develop innovative solutions to global health challenges.
About Us
The Nutrition and Global Health Program’s focus extends beyond nutrition to encompass various factors that impact global health, including infectious and noncommunicable diseases, economic development, humanitarian crises, and demographic transitions worldwide.
Our faculty, trainees, and students seek to address critical global health challenges through pioneering research and comprehensive training programs in fields such as infectious disease, maternal and child health, adolescent health, food systems and planetary health.
Current research projects:
- Optimizing treatment for infants with signs of possible serious bacterial infection
- Understanding the geographic distribution, predictors, and health consequences of gestational weight gain in low- and middle-income countries
- Designing comprehensive health and nutrition intervention for adolescents in Tanzania
- Implementing and evaluating a comprehensive school-based nutrition intervention in secondary schools in Tanzania
- Addressing critical implementation questions regarding how to effectively target and deliver balanced energy protein supplements (BEP) to malnourished pregnant women
