Prospective Students
The Applied Practice Experience is an important – and exciting! – part of professional degree programs in public health. Every year, student embark on projects that provide meaningful ways to further their individual professional goals and prepare them for the next stage of their career.
Both masters and doctoral students in professional degree programs – the MPH and DrPH – are required to complete an Applied Practice Experience.
The MPH practicum is designed jointly by the student and his or her preceptor at a host organization, to advance the work of the organization as well as provide a real world learning experience for the student. The time commitment is 120 hours for students in 45-credit MPH programs, and 200 hours for students in 65-credit MPH programs. Students enroll in a practice class with their field of study, which creates a forum for active discussion, reflection, and peer learning.
Students interested in the DrPH program also complete an Applied Practice Experience. Please visit the DrPH program pages for more details.
Every year, students complete an impressive range of field work with public health practitioners in the Boston area, as well as elsewhere in the U.S., and globally. Explore the wide variety of MPH practicum projects here.
