Disparities in U.S. Maternal Health

With generous support from Merck for Mothers, the Maternal Health Task Force (MHTF) undertook a project in 2015 to raise awareness about the disparities in U.S. maternal health in the global context and to centralize knowledge related to maternal mortality in the U.S. As a part of this project, the MHTF:

  • Created a topic page dedicated to raising awareness about disparities in maternal mortality in the U.S., which includes a summary of the problem and a number of resources
  • Published a blog series sharing perspectives from clinicians, researchers, program implementers and advocates about inequities in maternal mortality in the U.S.
  • Hosted a policy dialogue with the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. entitled “What Explains the United States’ Dismal Maternal Mortality Rates?” as part of the Advancing Dialogue on Maternal Health Series
  • Designed an infographic depicting trends in maternal mortality in the U.S. and highlighting racial inequities
