The conference comes at a critical time when countries around the world are preparing for new, ambitious global targets: the Sustainable Development Goals. Our conference will provide the maternal and newborn health communities an opportunity to reflect on the successes and challenges of the Millennium Development Goals, while discussing priorities for the post-2015 global agenda. Have Stillbirth Data? We Need Your Help!
The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, together with the World Health Organization, with support from Saving Newborn Lives/Save the Children, are updating estimates of stillbirth rates at national level for the first time since 2009, and need your help. If you have suitable data, these would be a very valuable input to improve the estimates and gain more attention for this important global health issue. For each team contributing stillbirth data, two investigators will be invited to be members of the author group on a peer reviewed paper regarding the estimates. Read more.

EVENT: Emerging Priorities for Maternal Health in Nigeria (Abuja and Washington, DC)
The Wilson Center’s Maternal Health Initiative, in partnership with UNFPA and the Maternal Health Task Force, is heading to Abuja, Nigeria, to co-host a two-day workshop from December 16-17 with the Centre for Population and Reproductive Health. On December 17, Nigerian policymakers, community health workers, program managers, and donors will join us in a discussion about what’s needed to improve maternal health systems in a live video conference. Call for Posts: How a Woman-Centered Agenda Can Make Universal Health Coverage More Than a Mantra
As momentum builds towards the unveiling of the post-2015 agenda, the global health community has its eye on universal health coverage (UHC) as a priority for operationalizing the sustainable development goals (SDGs). The issue at hand is not whether UHC is achievable, but is ensuring that UHC researchers, implementers, and policy-makers collaborate to provide rich evidence to improve and ensure quality health care for all. In order to facilitate this collaboration, the Maternal Health Task Force (MHTF) and USAID|TRAction hosted the session, Woman-Centered Care as the Engine for Universal Health Coverage, at the Third Global Symposium on Health Systems Research in Cape Town, South Africa on September 30, 2014. Human Rights Day: Addressing Gender-Based Violence in Maternal Care
The fact that nearly one in three women globally has experienced intimate partner violence, a form of gender-based violence (GBV), is widely known. But can you easily name a situation where GBV occurs in the healthcare system? GBV is a worldwide problem that occurs in many contexts and in many forms including sexual violence, physical and verbal abuse, and cultural practices that harm women. The 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence campaign, which launched on November 25th, puts this serious issue under the international spotlight. Read more.
