Training Workshop on Scientific Writing

India Research Center conducted an all-day teaching workshop on ‘Basics of Scientific Writing’ that focused on improving writing skills of PhD candidates, research scholars, post-doctoral fellows, and students from academic and research institutes.

Dr. Mark C. Elliott, Vice Provost for International Affairs and Mark Schwartz Professor of Chinese and Inner Asian History at Harvard University opened the teaching workshop with his ‘keynote address’ that aimed at sensitising the students to the importance of scientific writing. Dr. Elliott shared his own experiences of preparing research findings for publication and how such teaching modules can be used to learn methods for writing scientific literature. In conclusion, Dr. Elliott hoped that for all the students attending the workshop at the India Research Center, this interaction would be the first of the many with Harvard University.

Dr. Sonal Jhaveri delivered five teaching modules which included scientific methods for writing the: Introduction, Methods, Results and illustrations, Discussion, and Title and abstract. In addition to the lectures, Dr. Jhaveri also engaged the students in interactive discussions, applied exercises and provided feedback to researchers working on papers for publication
