Talk on ‘Can Deaths from Cancer be Prevented?’

March 2023

Conducted on March 2, 2023 in Mumbai by Dr David J. HunterMBBS, MPH, ScD, FAFPHM, Richard Doll Professor of Epidemiology and Medicine, Nuffield Department of Population  Health, University of Oxford, and Vincent L. Gregory Professor of Cancer Prevention, Emeritus, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Cancer is sometimes thought of as an inevitable consequence of aging. The large differences in cancer rates between countries, and over time within countries, suggest that it is not. In his talk, Dr Hunter reviews the evidence that 50% of cancer deaths globally could be prevented, and the extent to which better treatment of cancer could prevent death from cancers once they are diagnosed.
