Hybrid Event on ‘Tobacco and Alcohol Control’

Conducted on August 1, 2022, in Lower Parel, Mumbai and online: A Symposium on Tobacco and Alcohol Control, with a panel addressing ‘Risky Behaviours and Health Promotion – State of Evidence and Preventive Action‘. Panelists approached a wide range of concerns related to alcohol consumption and tobacco usage in India. They drew on the expertise of people from public policy, medicine, public health, epidemiology, and communications to discuss these risky behaviors and how public agenda can be influenced.

Panelists included: Mr. B. Kartikey Dhanji, IAS, Excise Commissioner & Inspector General, Registration, Officer on Special Duty, Bihar Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development, Government of Bihar; Dr. Pratima Murthy, Director and Senior Professor of Psychiatry, National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS); Dr. Rati Godrej, MD, Internal Medicine and Member, Advisory Council for the India Research Center; Dr. Ziming Xuan, Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the Boston University School of Public Health. The discussion was moderated by Dr. K Vish Viswanath, Lee Kum Kee Professor of Health Communications at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
