On April 28, 2026, Dr. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil was elected to the National Academy of Sciences!

Election to the National Academy of Sciences is one of highest honors a scientist can receive, and it is in recognition of his distinguished and continuing achievements in metabolic research.

The NAS is a private, nonprofit institution established in 1863 under a congressional charter signed by President Abraham Lincoln. Election to the Academy is a mark of exceptional scientific accomplishment, and the NAS—together with the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Medicine—provides independent science, engineering, and health policy advice to the federal government and other organizations.

We are immensely proud of Dr. Hotamişlıgıls accomplishments and this well-deserved recognition.
