Summer Program in Clinical Effectiveness
The PCE is designed for individuals seeking advanced training in clinical and population-based research, including healthcare professionals, clinical investigators, scientists, and other professionals engaged in health-related research and evaluation. A joint program between Mass General Brigham, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health & Harvard Medical School.
Applying to the PCE as Part of a Degree Program

Application Instructions
- MPH in Clinical Effectiveness 45 credit
- You need to complete only one application: the SOPHAS application for the MPH in Clinical Effectiveness.
- Your SOPHAS application will automatically consider you for the Program in Clinical Effectiveness (PCE).

- SM in Epidemiology 42.5 credit
- You must complete two applications:
- Apply to the SM in Epidemiology through SOPHAS. For degree program application instructions, visit SM in Epidemiology, 42.5-credit
- Apply to the Summer Program in Clinical Effectiveness through SOPHAS Express. The required materials are listed below.
- Important: Submit your SOPHAS degree-program application first. If you need a fee waiver for the SOPHAS Express application, contact progclineffect@partners.org before submitting your SOPHAS Express application.
- SOPHAS Express application requirements
- $65 non-refundable application fee
- Statement of purpose and objectives. You may use the same statement as for your degree application. Submit a one-page document explaining why you wish to attend the program, your professional goals, and how the program will benefit you.
- Two letters of reference. You may use the same references as for your degree application. References should describe your clinical ability and your potential in research and/or public health. If applicable, one reference should be from your division or department head verifying your affiliation during the summer you plan to attend the PCE.
- Curriculum vitae
- TOEFL, IELTS Academic, or Duolingo score, if required. Visit this site and scroll down for details.
- Transcripts, optional. If you submit transcripts, scan your unofficial transcripts and upload them as one document.
- Standardized test scores, optional
Applying PCE credits to other degree programs
Some other MPH and SM degree programs allow students to transfer Summer PCE credits. Check with the administrators of your desired degree program before applying to the PCE.
Summer PCE credits may be transferred within five years. If you completed the Summer PCE within the past five years, you do not need to apply to the Summer PCE again.
