Summer Program in Clinical Effectiveness
The PCE is designed for individuals seeking advanced training in clinical and population-based research, including healthcare professionals, clinical investigators, scientists, and other professionals engaged in health-related research and evaluation. A joint program between Mass General Brigham, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health & Harvard Medical School.
Degree option
- MPH in Clinical Effectiveness, 45-credit
- Your Application to the MPH in Clinical Effectiveness, 45-credit will automatically consider you for the Program in Clinical Effectiveness, no separate application is needed. (For degree program application instructions, please visit MPH in Clinical Effectiveness, 45-credit).
- SM in Epidemiology, 42.5-credit (Summer-only or Fall start)
- This is a two-step application process:
- Apply to the degree program of your choosing via SOPHAS (for degree program application instructions, please visit SM in Epidemiology, 42.5-credit)
- Apply to the Summer Program in Clinical Effectiveness via SOPHAS Express (see below for instructions)
Application Instructions
- SOPHAS Express Application, which includes:
- $60 non-refundable application fee
- Contact progclineffect@partners.org for a fee waiver for your SOPHAS Express application. (Submit your SOPHAS (degree) application first, but reach out before you submit your SOPHAS Express non-degree application).
- Statement of purpose and objectives (you may use the same letter as for your degree application):
- One page document addressing the reasons you wish to attend this program, your professional goals, and why you feel that this program will be beneficial to you.
- Two letters of reference (you may use the same references as for your degree application):
- References detailing your clinical ability and research and/or public health potential.
- One reference should be from your division/department head verifying your affiliation during the summer you plan to attend the PCE, if applicable.

- TOEFL, IELTS Academic, or Duolingo (Required) (please visit this site and scroll down for details)
- Transcripts (Optional): If you are submitting your transcripts, scan unofficial transcripts and upload them to the application as one document.
- Standardized Tests (Optional)
Applying PCE credits to other degree programs
Some additional MPH and SM degree programs allow students to transfer Summer PCE credits. Applicants should check with the administrators of their desired degree program before applying to the Program in Clinical Effectiveness.
Note: Credits from the Summer PCE can be transferred within five years. If you have have taken the Summer PCE in the last five years, it is not necessary to re-apply to the summer program.
