Biologicals
The study of biologicals in public health focuses on understanding the role of microorganisms (including viruses, bacteria, algae, fungi) in the environment and their impact on human health. This interdisciplinary research field in the Department of Environmental Health combines microbiology, epidemiology, environmental science, and public health to monitor, control, and prevent diseases. Key aspects of our work include:
- microbial ecology
- pathogens and disease transmission
- epidemiology of infectious diseases
- waste management
- risk assessment
Research into biologicals in the environment aims to improve public health by monitoring microbial threats and developing effective interventions. Researchers are also working on advancing techniques in microbial detection, understanding the impact of environmental changes on microbial populations, and promoting policies that reduce microbial hazards.
By addressing these challenges, we work towards a future where communities are better equipped against microbial threats, including infectious diseases, and can enjoy better health outcomes.
