Scarlett Bellamy Named New Chair of BU Biostats
Congratulations to alumna and department adjunct professor, Scarlett Bellamy, ScD ’01, who has just been named the new Chair of the Department of Biostatistics at Boston University!
Per BU press release: Dr. Bellamy is currently a professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion at the Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health. Prior to that, she was a professor in the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology & Informatics at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Bellamy holds degrees from Hampton and Harvard Universities. Her areas of professional focus include health disparities, infectious disease, reproductive health, mental and behavioral health, and evaluating the intervention efficacy of longitudinal behavioral modification trials. She was PI of an R13 grant supporting the “Fostering Diversity in Biostatistics” at the Eastern North American Region of the International Biometric Society. She is a fellow of the American Statistical Association, and was the 2017 president of the Eastern North American Region of the International Biometrics Society. Dr. Bellamy also serves as a statistical collaborator for the Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP), Corporal Michael J. Crescenz Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Philadelphia. Dr. Bellamy will officially join BU on July 1, 2023. We look forward to seeing all the great things she will do in her new role and very happy to have her back in Boston!
