The Health Systems Innovation Lab at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is a global research and training lab that specializes in health system performance, health policy, innovation and venture creation.
Led by Prof. Rifat Atun, the Lab uses its research, education, innovation, and translation activities to engage innovators, researchers, practitioners, as well as collaborators from governments, private sector, multilateral entities, and civil society to build high-value health systems and accelerate the diffusion of healthcare innovations.
The Lab conducts its work within two interrelated streams–Health Systems and Innovation—and is driven by a Harvard-based team of interdisciplinary clinicians and researchers and an international collaborative network of disciplinary experts.

At the Harvard Health Systems Innovation Lab, we are committed to conducting high-quality research to inform policy and practice to advance high-value health systems for all. Our work enables transformative innovation and provides evidence-based, real-world solutions to improve health systems around the world.
Mission
We transform health systems and innovate to drive large-scale impact through research, education, and translation.
Research – Assess health system performance, inform implementation of health system innovations, and evaluate their impact to accelerate progress towards high-value health systems across different countries globally.
Education – Train students, researchers, policymakers and practitioners, using evidence-based methods to design, implement and scale innovative solutions to improve health system performance.
Translation – Translate research findings into innovative solutions, policy and practice by supporting the development of innovation ecosystems, incubating ventures, and advising public and private entities on improving health systems performance
