Better Evidence for Training Champions
About our Champions
Better Evidence for Training Champions support the use of evidence-based digital tools in their respective universities through advocacy, training, and communication activities while working together to share best practices and ideas.
Steering Committee

Oluwaseun Abiodun-Asanre is a System Librarian at Lagos State University. She also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Oluwaseun obtained her master’s degree in library, archival, and information studies from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. She is particularly interested in the accessibility of evidence-based health information to underserved populations, tacit knowledge transfer in residency training, Library impact on Webometrics rankings of academic institutions, capacity building for librarians, and human-computer interaction. Oluwaseun is an expert at facilitating online training and instruction using Google Meet and Zoom, as well as evidence-based literature search and review. Oluwaseun assists with information evaluation at Lagos State University and teaches undergraduates. Additionally, she helps to create the library and information studies course materials for undergraduates. Oluwaseun excels at collaborating with others and completing deadlines.

Morenike Agnes Akinlosotu is a Pediatrician with special interest in Pediatric Hemato-Oncology from Nigeria. She is a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University with M.B.Ch.B and a fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCPaed). She currently lectures in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Medical Sciences and is a consultant Pediatrician at the University of Medical Science Teaching Hospitals complex Ondo state. She also serves as a Better Evidence for Training Champion at the institution.

Tariku Sime Gizaw works at Jimma University as academic staff. He graduated from the University of Wollega with a four year degree in Public Health and got his MSc in Medical Biochemistry from Addis Ababa University. He has been working at Jimma University as academic staff and a researcher in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. While at Jimma University, he has participated in different research studies and has four publications. The experiences he has gained from learning, research, and teaching have led him to be a good communicator, committed, excellent in teamwork, and enthusiastic. He has taken different trainings and workshops that have enhanced his personal and professional development so that he can deliver services in health care, research and development, management, and community mobilization effectively.

Annalize E. Hoebes is the Assistant Librarian of Clinical Services at the University of Namibia, School of Medicine Library. She graduated from University of Kwazulu with a postgraduate diploma in Electronic Health and is currently studying for her Masters of Medical Sciences in Medical Informatics at the University of Kwazulu Natal. She also holds a Bachelors of Library and Information Science from the University of Namibia. She has a special interest in health information systems and artificial intelligence. She was awarded a Commonwealth Fellowship Award in 2017 through the Phoenix Project, in collaboration with University of Namibia. She has been part of the Better Evidence for Training program since 2024.

Violet Ikolo is the College Librarian at College of Health Sciences, Delta State University in Abraka, Nigeria. Violet graduated from Delta State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, a Masters Degree in Library and Information Science, and a Phd in Library Science. She is passionate about meeting research needs of medical students and researchers at the College of Health Sciences through enabling access to relevant health information resources and services. Violet is also a researcher whose areas of research interest are medical librarianship, promoting continued education and training for librarians to improve service delivery, librarian’s job satisfaction and commitment, information literacy and library users satisfaction. In addition, Violet has facilitated several library use workshops for undergraduates and members of the academic community of the College of Health Sciences. Violet is member of several library associations, such as the Nigerian Library Association (NLA), Medical Library Association of Nigeria (MLA-NG), and the Association for Health Information and Libraries in Africa (AHILA). In addition, she is a Certified Librarian in Nigeria (CLN) and a Certified Medical Librarian of Nigeria (CMLN). She joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2024.

Ndaona Lyson is a Senior Library Assistant-ICT at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS). He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Ndaona holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Information and Communication Technology obtained at Mzuzu University and has a special interest in technology.

Biliamin Oladele Popoola is an academic librarian, researcher, and Knowledge Management expert from Nigeria. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Anatomy and a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies obtained from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He is presently the Systems, Scholarly Communications & Evidence-Based Medicine Librarian at the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo City, Nigeria, and a Better Evidence for Training Champion at the institution. Biliamin has served as facilitator and trainer at several workshops, training and seminars, and has published widely. He is a member of various Library and Information Science professional bodies within and outside Nigeria. He has special interest in evidence synthesis, health information librarianship, professional development, information literacy and education as a tool for development.

Dr. Bezawit Teshale Bekele is a General Practitioner and Vice Dean of the School of Medicine at Jimma University. She also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Dr. Bezawit graduated from Jimma University with a Degree of Medical Doctorate in Medicine and has a special interest in youth leadership.

Gemechis Zerihun Bekele is a Digital Librarian at Dambi Dollo University in Dambi Dollo, Oromia, Ethiopia. Zerihun graduated from Dona Barbar Polytechnic College with a Level IV in Hardware and Networking Service and has a special interest in work with digital materials for clinicians and helping people with health-based digital materials. He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2023.
Current Champions

Emmanuel Kusi Achampong is an Associate Professor in Health Informatics at the Department of Medical Education and Information Technology, School of Medical Sciences, University of Cape Coast, Ghana. He has a PhD in Information Technology and an MSc in Health Informatics. Profession Achampong and his colleagues have won some grants for research into health informatics and health information management. He has thirty-two publications in peer-reviewed journals. His research interests include artificial intelligence in medicine and electronic health records system. He joined the Better Evidence Training Program in 2024.

Wilson Adriko is a Senior Librarian/Medical Librarian at Mbarara University of Science and Technology. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Wilson Adriko graduated from Makerere University with Bachelors of Library and Information Science and from Mbarara University of Science and Technology with Masters of Science in Information Systems, and has special interest in adoption of open source software and its applications in provision of health information, systematic reviews, policy briefs, and most recently, the Data Science Librarianship.


Mr. Casper Onyiego Atege, is a Medical Librarian handling Electronic Resources at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Nairobi, Kenya. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion where he manages implementation of UpToDate training, registration of UpTodate users and handling of user enquiries in KMTC campuses. For the last 34 years, he has worked at the KMTC Library. Casper Atege graduated from Moi University with a Bachelor of Science in Information Sciences. He has a special interest in Marketing of Library and Information Services as well as Information Communications Technology related work.

Cynthia Atua-Ntow (Mrs.) is an Assistant Librarian at the Emmanuel Quaye Archampong Library, College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana, Korle-Bu, Ghana. Cynthia, a University of Pretoria, South Africa graduate, holds a Master’s in Information Technology (M.IT) specializing in IT in academic libraries. She is a seasoned professional with over twenty years of expertise in strategic information retrieval, E-Resources, Evidence Synthesis, and training in referencing manager software. She is passionate about helping the academic community master the art of information retrieval. Cynthia joined the Better Evidence for Training Program in 2024.

Grace A. Ajuwon is a Medical Librarian and Director of the E. Latunde Odeku Medical Library, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. She serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Grace Ajuwon graduated from the University of Ibadan with a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Masters and PhD in Library and Information Studies. She has been involved in the education and training of staff and students of the College of Medicine University of Ibadan and other institutions in Nigeria in database searching including Research4Life. She has been training students and researchers on information searching tools, search techniques and use of reference management tools for more than two decades. Grace is an academic librarian and a global scholar who has published in both national, regional and international peer reviewed journals.

Yaw Akwoyire Aviamu is an Academic Librarian in charge of electronic resources at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Aviamu graduated from the University of Ghana with MPhil Degree in Information and Library Studies and has a special interest in Health Information Management, Information literacy, and Learning Spaces.

Glorias Asiimwe is a Medical Librarian working at Busitema University Faculty of Health Sciences in Eastern Uganda. She also serves as a Better Evidence Champion at her institution. Glorias holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science from Makerere University and is currently finalizing a Master’s Degree in Information Sciences from the same University. Glorias’ research interests are: health information management, big data, information retrieval and information literacy.

Abera Ayenwa is a Multimedia Librarian at Myungsung Medical College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He holds an MBA from Queens College and a B.Sc. in Information Systems with a focus in Management Information System and Database and Networking from the University of Gondar. Abera joined the Better Evidence for Training program as a Champion in 2025.

Dr. Fathea Bani is a lecturer with the University for Development Studies and a Pediatrician in Tamale, Ghana. She joined the Better Evidence for Training program as a Champion in 2023.

Dr. Getasew Bayu is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrician and Gynecologist at Hawassa University Comprehensive Specialized Hospital in Ethiopia. Dr. Bayu graduated from Bahir Dar University, with a specialization in OBGYN and from Hawassa University with M.D. He is the Director of the School of Medicine academic and service directorate at Hawassa University College of Medicine and Health Science. He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2024.

Dr. Geta Bayu graduated from the University of Gondar with both an undergraduate and speciality degree. He has a special interest in research and evidence-based practice. He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2025.

Emilia Bechem Bechemagbor is a Librarian at FHSUB Cameroon. She received a BED in Library Sciences from University of Calabar and a Masters in Library Archival and Information Sciences from University of Buea Cameroon. She has a special interest in Library management and learned about Better Evidence after attending the conference “AHILA” in Botswana in 2023. She joined Better Evidence for Training in 2024.

Alemayehu Bisrat is a lecturer of Health Informatics & Director of Library & Information Service at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College in Ethiopia. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion as of August 2021. Alemayehu graduated from Addis Ababa University with an MSc Degree in Health Informatics, and has a special interest in eHealth and health information technology application in the healthcare industry.

Dr. Fikretsion Degemu Besir is a pediatrician. He currently serves as an assistant professor and the chief executive director of Wolkite University College of Medicine and Health Sciences, as well as his university hospital. He earned his MD in 2017 from Arbaminch University School of Medicine and completed his specialty training in 2021 at Saint Paul’s Millennium Medical College in Addis Ababa. He has a keen interest in digital health and joined Better Evidence for Training in 2024.

Sosena Sheleme Beyene, MD is a medical doctor at Hawassa University. She graduated from Hawassa University with a doctor of medicine degree. She joined the Better Evidence Training Program in 2024.

Regina Bonareri Kombo is a Librarian at Kenya Medical Training College with a degree in Library and Information Science with a special interest in digital librarianship and research. She joined Better Evidence for Training Program in 2025.

Nouh Ismail Botan was born in Hargeisa, Somaliland and finished his MBBS and master degree at the University of Hargeisa. Now, he is a cardiologist at Hargeisa Group Hospital, as well as a lecturer and clinical supervisor at the University of Hargeisa. Over the past few years he has worked as a clinical supervisor, lecturer and clinician in the largest hospital in Somaliland. He also likes to play football, read books and travel.

Ramla Adam Chamvanga is an Assistant Librarian Trainee, Directorate of Library Services at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She graduated from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) with a Bachelor degree of Arts in Library and Information Studies. She is currently finalizing a Master degree of Arts in Information Studies at UDSM. She has a special interest in Library systems and technologies, Information literacy, Systematic review, Evidence-based resources, Health information systems and Reproductive health education. She received awards of Best Worker from MUHAS at the departmental level from 2018-2020. She joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2023.

Kajal Chhaganlal is the Pedagogical Director at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Catholic University of Mozambique. He graduated in 2007 as medical doctor and then acquired his PhD in International Health at the Ludwig Maximillians University of Munique. His special interests are in pediatric infections, cardiology, and research. He joined Better Evidence for Training in 2024.

Maria Chinzou is an Assistant librarian at the University of Zimbabwe, Harare, Zimbabwe. She graduated from the National University of Science and Technology University with a Masters of Science in Library and Information Science. Her area of expertise is of special interest research. She joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2025.

Dr. Tafadzwa Chipfuva is a Consultant Physician and Lecturer in the Department of Medicine in the Faculty Of Medicine at Midlands State University, Gweru in ZIMBABWE. Tafadzwa Chipfuva graduated with a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery (MBChB) from University of Zimbabwe in 2005. He obtained his Master of Medicine in Medicine ( MMed Med) from the University of Zimbabwe 2018. He has a special interest in Cardiovascular Disease, Diabetes and Research towards improved care and the preventive aspect of non-communicable disease. He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in June 2023.

Solomon Demsew currently serves as the IT and Electronic Medical Record System Team Leader at Hakim Gizaw Hospital, part of Debrebirehan University Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus. He graduated from Debrebirehan University with a Master’s in Computer and Network Security and a Bachelor’s in Information Systems. His special interests lie in medicine and electronic medical records (EMR). He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2025.

Alice Dube is a College of Health, Agriculture and Natural Sciences Librarian at Africa University in Mutare, Zimbabwe. Alice Dube graduated from the National University of Science and Technology (Zimbabwe) with a Master of Science in Library and Information Science, and has special interests in systematic reviews and information skills for evidence-based healthcare. She joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2024.

Mr. Tawanda Thabani Dzvairo is a Lecturer in the Department of Public Health and Nursing at Africa University in Mutare, Zimbabwe. Tawanda graduated from Africa University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Services Management and a Master in Public Health and has a special interest in Public Health. He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2024.

Melaku Getachew is an attending physician and Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and Critical care at Haramaya University School of Medicine. He is currently a department head of Emergency and Critical care Medicine. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Melaku Getachew graduated from Haramaya University with a degree in Doctor of Medicine. He also graduated from Addis Ababa University with a post-graduate specialty certificate in Emergency Medicine and Critical care, and has a special interest in teaching, advocating Medicine and Point of care ultrasound.

Dr. Feron Getachew, MD is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in Addis Ababa University. He is currently serving as consultant General and Vascular Surgeon in Tikur Anbessa Specialised Hospital. He earned his MD, as well as specialty and subspeciality certificates from Addis Ababa University. Dr. Feron is passionate about equitable access to quality medical education and health care. He is the President of HELP Ethiopia, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting health and medical education in Ethiopia. He joined Better Evidence for Training in 2024.

Aziza Gihega is a Medical Library Officer at Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences. She also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Aziza graduated from Tumaini University Dar es Salaam College with a BA in Library and Information Sciences.

Colette is an Assistant Librarian at the University of Rwanda, College of Medicine and Health Sciences. As an Assistant Librarian at an academic institution, she is in charge of databases and e-resources and the digital repository at the library. She holds a Bachelors degree in Library and Information Sciences and a certificate in Digital Repository from the University of Rwanda and a certificate. She joined Better Evidence for Training program in 2024.

Daudi Ally Joho is a Library Assistant at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC), a referral and teaching hospital in the Northern zone of the country, and at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMUCo), a Constituent College of Tumaini University Makumira (TuMa) Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. He completed his Ordinary Diploma in Library Archives and Documentation Studies at the School of Library Archives and Documentation Studies (SLADS) at Bagamoyo, and his BA in Library and Information Management at Open University of Tanzania. His interests include promoting global awareness through the internet, reading culture as an attitude and behavior, organizational behavior, education, marketing of information services, reference services, and digital library services.

Ruzende João Jordane has been Head of the Library of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Catholic University of Mozambique since 2017. He has worked as an assistant director at the University and worked as an assistant professor at UCM and UnIsced. He graduated with a degree in Philosophy and History from the Pedagogical University of Mozambique and a Master’s degree in Public Health from the Catholic University of Mozambique and Public University of Navarra – Spain. He joined the Better Evidence Training Program in 2024.

Elias is a Head and Chief Librarian at the University of Dar es Salaam-Mbeya College of Health and Allied Sciences. Elias graduated from the University of Dar es Salaam with an M.A. in Information Studies, an M.A. in Development, and a B.A. in Geography and Environmental Studies. He has a special interest in the environment, information technology, e-resources, Artificial Intelligence, research and projects. He has also served as a Better Evidence Champion since 2020.
Arthur Karemani is a Librarian II at the circulation and reference desk medical library at Gulu University in Gulu, Uganda. Karemani Arthur graduated from Makerere University with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Science and has a special interest in knowledge management
information literacy, research and using ICTs in academia. He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2023.

Keamogetse Kegasitswe is a Medical Librarian at the University of Botswana in Gaborone, Botswana. Keamogetse graduated from the University of Botswana with a Master of Archives and Records Management in Library and Information Science, Executive Master in Entrepreneurship University of Botswana. She has a special interest in Information & Knowledge, Digital Libraries, Information Systems, Data Management and Data Science.

David has a vast experience of 30 years in the information science field out of which 13 years he has served as a Medical Librarian and Library ICT champion at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Nairobi, Kenya. He holds a Diploma in Information Science from The Technical University of Kenya and is pursuing a Bachelors Degree from Kenyatta University, Kenya. David is in charge of training students (undergraduate and postgraduate) and faculty members in research techniques, e-journal databases, citation and referencing softwares, as well as anti-plagiarism softwares. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion at The University of Nairobi. His special interest is making medical research more efficient and effective by facilitating access to and training medical students and faculty on the best use of evidence-based clinical tools that can change or have an impact on society.

Dr. Alison Annet Kinengyere is a Senior Librarian (Academic) at Sir Albert Cook Library, College of Health Sciences, Makerere University. She also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. She graduated from Makerere University with a PhD in Information Science and has a special interest in information literacy, and evidence synthesis.


Dr. Hawa Sonii Koon is a faculty of Pediatrics at the A. M. Dogliotti College of Medicine, University of Liberia College of Health Sciences. She formerly served as a Better Evidence Champion to her University. Dr. Hawa Sonii Koon graduated in 2018 from the Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons where she obtained a Postgraduate Degree in Pediatrics. She has interest in teaching and mentoring medical students and residents and has devoted a portion of her time to doing that.

Stella Kube is a medical librarian at the University of Botswana in Gaborone, Botswana. Stella Kube graduated from the University of Botswana with a master’s degree in Archives and Records Management and a bachelor’s degree in library and information science, and has a special interest in Librarianship and health information. She joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2022.

Linea Lipinge is the Assistant Librarian at the Oshakati Teaching Hospital Library, University of Namibia. She holds a postgraduate diploma in Knowledge and Information System Management from Stellenbosch University and a Bachelor’s degree inLibrary Science and Record Management from the University of Namibia. She joined Better Evidence for Training in September 2023.

Dr. Lombamo is Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Dean of the School of Medicine at Wachemo University in Hossana, Ethiopia. Dr. Lombamo graduated from Addis Ababa University School of Medicine with a Doctoral degree in medicine and specialized in obstetrics and gynecology at Saint Paul Millennium Medical College, and has a special interest in Football. He received the Best Obstetrician and Gynecologist in Companionate and Respectful Care (CRC) award from Nigist Eleni Mohammed Memorial Comprehensive Specialized Hospital (NIMMCSH). He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2023.

Taphros Madondo is a Systems Librarian at Africa University, Mutare, Zimbabwe. Taphros Madondo graduated from National University of Technology with a Masters degree in Library and Information Science and from Zimbabwe Open University with a BSc(Hons) in Library and Information Science, and has special interest in library automation. He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2024.

Euclid Sydney Magawa is a Clinical Skills Lab Manager and Clinical Skills Tutor as well as a member of the Medical Education Unit – the Teaching and Learning Development Centre (TLDC) of the Kamuzu University of Health Science (KUHeS) in Malawi. Euclid Sydney Magawa graduated from The University of Malawi, College of Medicine now KUHeS with a Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree. Currently he is about to finish his Postgraduate Masters in Medical Education with the University of Dundee. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion.

Gilbert Maina is a medical librarian at Moi University. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Gilbert graduated from Moi University with a Masters degree in Information Sciences and has special interest in the management of digital resources in online platforms that are interactive with end users for optimum utilization.

Hellen is a Librarian, working with St. Francis University College of Health and Allied Sciences (SFUCHAS) since June 2016. She went to Open University Of Tanzania (OUT) for a Bachelor Degree in Library and Information Management. She has a special interest in Library systems Management and Library / Information Services provision, specifically in helping out all kind of users. She joined Better Evidence in July 2023.

Emanuel Makarius graduated with a Doctor of Medicine degree from St. Francis University College of Health and Allied Sciences. He currently serves as a medical doctor at Mbeya Zonal Referral Hospital and is also Better Evidence Champion at the University of Dar Es Salaam-Mbeya College of Health and Allied Sciences, Tanzania. He has a special interest in medical research.

Ignatius Manyanye is a Senior Library Assistant at Great Zimbabwe University in Zimbabwe. Ignatius graduated from Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU), with a Bachelor of Science Honors Degree in Library and Information Science, and has a special interest in research data management. He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2023.

MBERIMBERE Pasteur, MD, MMed (master in Obstetrics and Gynecology) graduated from the University of Rwanda School of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2021. He has a strong interest in medical education, pelvic reconstructive surgery, and fistula surgeries. In May 2023 Dr. Mberimbere received a prestigious award from the International Organization for Women and Development (IOWD) for his strong commitment and for gaining practical skills in training for pelvic reconstructive surgeries and fistula surgeries over 4 years. He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2023.

Cesiah Y. Pimentel Meléndez is an Associate Dean of Quality and Mission Effectiveness at the Adventist School of Medicine of East-Central Africa (ASOME) in Kigali, Rwanda. She graduated from Andrews University with a PhD in Leadership (Emphasis on Healthcare Leadership) and is particularly interested in developing healthcare leaders and quality management in clinical and educational settings. She joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2024.

Rachel Mgeni is a lecturer and clinician at ASOME in Kigali, Rwanda. Dr. Mgeni graduated from KCMC University with a Master’s of Medicine in Internal Medicine, and has a special interest in cardiology. She joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2025.

Dagne Minda is lecturer, and an Information and Communication Directorate Director at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Dagne graduated from Addis Ababa University with a Master’s degree in health informatics and has a special interest in eHealth systems research and Medical image processing research especially in detection of Cancer of different types with Deep Learning and machine learning algorithms. He also has more than 20 years of experience in software development and leading ICT Projects.

Kabwenda Moonga is a Senior Information Technology Officer – Applications, Support and Training, at Levy Mwanawasa Medical University in Lusaka, Zambia. He received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Zambia and is currently studying for a Masters of Science in Software Engineering at Beijing University Of Technology. He joined Better Evidence for Training in 2023.

Dr. Keneth Msimbe is a Tutorial Assistant at St. Francis University College of Health and Allied Sciences in Tanzania. He graduated from the University of Dar es Salaam in 2021 with a Doctor of Medicine degree. Dr. Msimbe joined the Better Evidence for Training program as a Champion in 2023.

Monicah Mugo is an assistant librarian at Kenyatta University post modern library where she heads the digitization section and manages the institutional repository. Monicah is also the liaison librarian for the school of medicine and health sciences at the University. She also serves as a better Evidence Champion for Kenyatta University. Monicah holds a Master’s degree in Information science from Kenyatta University and has a wealth of experience in Information management, having been a librarian since 1990. Her major area of interest is Information and research dissemination.

Christine Mukiza is an IT Officer in the Faculty of Medicine in Mbarara University of Science and Technology. She also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Christine has a Bachelors Degree of Information Technology and Master’s Degree of Science in Information Systems, both from Mbarara University of Science and Technology, and has special interest in information systems and working with clinicians, students, residents, and staff. She is a self-motivated and self-driven person who likes working and accomplishing assignments.

Emmanuel Munyaneza has a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Rwanda. He also has 16 years of experience working in clinical settings as a Registered Nurse. His interests are in surgical research and in using technology to improve health care delivery.

Jonathan Munyoro is the Deputy Librarian for Operations at the University of Zimbabwe. He holds a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from the National University of Science and Technology, Zimbabwe (2020). With over ten years of experience, Jonathan has leveraged digital technologies and assistive technologies to promote inclusive access to scientific information, supporting research and knowledge production to address societal problems. He received the 2022 JoVE Librarian Innovation Award for supporting science education and research. His research interests include health information literacy, information management, digital literacy, digital inclusion, knowledge management, and research uptake management. He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2025.

Mohammed Musa is a librarian working with Busitema University, Faculty of Health Sciences, in Eastern Uganda. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Mohammed holds a Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science (BLIS), Diploma in Records Management (DRM) and Certificate in library and Information science (CLIS), all from the Islamic University In Uganda. His duties include technical Services roles like book processing, reference and Circulation functions – Charging and Discharging of information materials, Information Technology roles – Support library users on how to browse the internet, online journals, databases and other electronic resources and other Cross-cutting roles. He also has a special interest in research dealing with analysis of impact of electronic resources on Library/digital library utilization and Information literacy.

Christoper Muunga is a Librarian at Cavendish University Zambia. He holds a MLIS from the University of Zambia with a focus on Knowledge Management and Records Management. He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2024.

William J. Mviombo is an assistant librarian working at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. William graduated from the University of Dar es Salaam with a Master’s Degree in Information Studies and he has a special interest in library e-resources databases and research repository administration. He is also involved in teaching Information Literacy and Learning Technologies, Communication Skills, and Computer Literacy courses to MUHAS undergraduate students. William has done numerous consultancies in information literacy, information systems automation, and management for several higher education institutions. He has also facilitated a wide range of training and workshops in health information management, reference management/citation, information searching strategies, and evidence-based databases like UpToDate for MUHAS faculty, postgraduate students, and medical practitioners at Muhimbili National Hospital.

Dr. Rhodes Elias Mwageni is a Director of Library Services and lecturer at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMUCo), a Constituent College of Tumaini University Makumira (TUMa), Tanzania, East Africa. He completed his BA General (Hons) degree, Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), and MA in Information Studies at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, and his PhD (Information studies) at the University of KwaZulu Natal in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. His research interests embrace reading culture as an attitude and behavior, organizational behavior, education, marketing of information services, reference services, and digital library services. He has extensive experience with research supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Nilton Joaquim Nassiaca is a Lecturer of Informatics and Head of Educational Technologies at the Catholic University of Mozambique in Mozambique. He graduated with a Bachelors in Information and Technologies and a Masters in Science of Rural Planing and Development from the Catholic University of Mozambique. He is currently a Doctoral candidate in Educational Innovation with the Catholic University of Mozambique, in partnership with Catholic University of Porto, Portugal. He is also getting a certificate in Educational Technologies from de Minister of Higher Education Science and Technology. He has a special interest in research on Internet-based and blended learning. Nilton joined Better Evidence for Training program in 2024.

DMs. Pauline Namulomba Nchemba is a Librarian and E-Learning Coordinator at Levy Mwanawasa Medical University in Zambia. Pauline Namulomba Nchemba graduated from the University of Zambia with a Bachelors of Art in Library and Information Studies and Development Studies and has interests in Digital Education and Research. She is the 2023- 2025 Library and Information Association of Zambia Vice President.

Sylvester Ndegese is a Systems Analyst at St. Francis University College of Health and Allied Sciences (SFUCHAS) in Morogoro, Tanzania with nine years of experience helping staff and students in utilizing ICT in academic, research, and consultancy activities. Sylvester graduated from the Institute of Finance Management (IFM), with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, and has a special interest in information systems and network security. He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2023.

Assurance Sipho Ndhlovu, MSc LiS, BAMS, Dip PR is an Information Consultant and an acting Subject Information Specialist at the University of Zimbabwe Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Library. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Assurance Sipho graduated from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) with a Masters in Library and Information Science, and has special interests in research as well as information packaging and dissemination.

Eric Ndombi is a lecturer of Immunology at Kenyatta University, School of Medicine in Nairobi, Kenya. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Eric graduated from the University of Nairobi with a PhD in Immunology, and has a special interest in neglected tropical disease research, especially schistosomiasis.

Jean Pierre Nkurikiyumugisha is an Assistant Lecturer and Head of General Nursing Department at Ruli Higher Institute of Health, Sainte Rose de Lima in Rwanda, Northern Province, Gakenke District, Ruli Sector. He graduated from the University of Rwanda College of Medicine and Health Sciences, with a Master’s degree in Nursing Education, Leadership, and Management. Jean Pierre Nkurikiyumugisha has special interest in nursing education, clinical teaching, research and community health. He is a pioneer of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) at the national level. He joined the Better Evidence Training program in 2024.

Mr. Bert LB Nyabadza is Sub Librarian Digital Support from Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) in Masvingo. He is a holder of a MSc. and BSc. (Hons) Degree in Library and Information Science from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST). He is an academic librarian by profession, a member of the International Federation of Library Associations & Institutions (IFLA) Library Building and Equipment Section (LBES) [2021-2025], a member of the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe (MAZ) [2020 to date], the Bulawayo Public Library Marketing Volunteer member (Aug 2019 to date) and he was the National Editor to the Zimbabwe Library Association (ZimLA) [2018 -2023]. Mr Nyabadza is a Video Editor, Web Designer, and a Search Engine Optimizer (SEO). He has a keen interest in Electronic Marketing Relationships (EMRs), bibliotherapy, library spaces and the use of technology in libraries. He joined Better Evidence for Training program in 2024.

Adrine serves as a Reference Librarian at Makerere University College of Health Sciences. She Graduated from Makerere University with a Bachelors in Library and and Information Science, and has a special interest in serving promoting evidence-based practice, traveling, and learning new things in her field of study.

Mr. Nzigamasabo Joseph is a Librarian and Lecturer at Hope Africa University. He graduated from Hope Africa University with a masters degree in Education and has a bachelors degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Burundi. He is serving as a Better Evidence Champion and is interested in Child Development and Family Studies.

Nelly Akoth Odhiambo is the Assistant Librarian at the University of Nairobi in Nairobi, Kenya. She graduated from the Technical University of Kenya with a Bachelor of Technology in Information Science, specializing in Library Science. She joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2024.

Dr. Nura Mohamed Omer is an assistant dean at Amoud University School of Medicine College of Health Sciences. She also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Nura graduated from Kampala International University in Uganda, with a bachelor’s in medicine and surgery, and is currently finishing up her master’s in research, data analysis and statistics. She is an avid reader and can speak 3 languages.

Kefa Makori Onderi is the Assistant Librarian at the University of Nairobi in Nairobi, Kenya. He graduated from the Technical University of Kenya with a Bachelor of Technology in Information Science, specializing in Library Science. He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2024.

Dr. Ismail Ibrahim Osman is a doctor at the University of Hargeisa in Somaliland. He graduated from university with a MBBS. Ismail joined Better Evidence for Training in 2024.

Kenneth is Manager in charge of ICT and digital transformation at Kenya Medical Training College in Nairobi Kenya. Kenneth is a Digital Transformation champion with a track record of spearheading cutting-edge research, delivering impactful training, and strategically integrating Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to drive organizational excellence. Specialized in Digital Transformation, Disruptive and Emerging Technologies, he brings a wealth of experience in optimizing resource mobilization and achieving exceptional Return on Investment (ROI) through innovative ICT solutions. Kenneth is a forward-thinking professional dedicated to shaping the digital landscape, fostering strategic partnerships, and empowering teams for success. Francis Willem RUMBETE is an artistic director, ICT advisor, and medical student with a passion for using technology to improve education and healthcare. He has over 3 years of experience working in the tech sector, and he is currently the artistic director of Free Tech Institute, a non-profit organization that provides free technology training to underserved communities in Burundi. He is also an ICT advisor at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Burundi, where he helps to develop and implement digital tools into the curriculum. In addition, he is a medical student at the University of Burundi, and he is eager to learn more about how to use evidence to improve patient care. Francis joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2023. He believes that it is essential for all healthcare professionals to have the skills to find, evaluate, and use evidence in their work. As a medical student, he is particularly interested in learning how to use digital tools to find and evaluate evidence quickly and efficiently. He believes that this is an essential skill for all medical students to have, in order to provide the best possible care to their patients. His work as an artistic director, ICT advisor, and medical student has given him a deep understanding of the importance of evidence-based decision-making. He is a skilled communicator and trainer.

Getachew Setotaw is the Director of ICT and Library Services at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Bahir Dar University in Ethiopia. Getachew graduated from Addis Ababa University with a Master of Science in Health Informatics. He joined the Better Evidence for Training Program in 2024.

Emmanuel Sitima is an ICT officer for Applications Support and Training at Levy Mwanawasa Medical University. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Emmanuel graduated from Northrise University with a Bachelor of Information Technology in Web and Software Development.


Tapiwa Tanhuke is an Assistant Librarian at the medical library at the National University of Science and Technology in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Tapiwa Tanhuke graduated from the National University of Science and Technology with a Masters in Library and Information Science. She has a special interest in Research Data Management and Systematic Reviews. She joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2023.

Melaku Taye Amogne is an Endocrinologist at College of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa University in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine (2016), Specialty in Internal Medicine (2020), and Subspecialty in Endocrinology and Metabolism (2023) from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. His research interests include cardiovascular diabetes, lipid and medical education. He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2024.

Rhoda Tembo is a Librarian at Lusaka Apex Medical University Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in Lusaka, Zambia. Rhoda Tembo graduated from the University of Zambia with a BALIS Degree, and has a special interest in Better Evidence. She joined Better Evidence for Training in 2023.

Dr. Rodas Temesgen, MD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of internal medicine and Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at Arba Minch University. She earned her Medical Doctorate from Arba Minch University as well as a Speciality Certificate in Internal Medicine from Addis Ababa University. Rodas also holds a Masters in Public Health from Jimma University.

Panganai Tom is an Assistant Librarian at Great Zimbabwe University in Masvingo, Zimbabwe. Panganai graduated from Zimbabwe Open University, with a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Library and Information Science. He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2023.

Twinamasiko Emmanuel is a Medical Librarian and also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Emmanuel graduated from Uganda Christian University with a Bachelor of Library and Information Science (Honors) Specializing in Digital Library Services and has a particular interest in Health information systems.

Ms. Ukech Susan graduated with an MIT-Master of Information Technology (Stream B) in 2014 (University of Pretoria), a Bachelor of Information Communication and Technology (Gulu University) 2010, and a Diploma in Library and Information Studies (Mak) 2004. She is a Library Assistant at Gulu University Library and has worked at the University since 2005. She has worked in various departments of the library; Africana Special collection section, ICT/E-Resource section, Medical library and User service department. Currently she is the Head of Law Library, Gulu University. Her areas of interest in research are: facilitating information retrieval and information use; digital libraries; and knowledge management.

Aminu Musa Umar is a College Librarian at the College of Medical Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. He also served as a Better Evidence Champion. Aminu graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science and a master’s degree in the same area. Aminu also recently finished his PhD in Library and Information Science with a specialization in Social Informatics-Information Behavior. He has a special interest in Open Access, Scholarly Communication, Digital Information Resource Management, Institutional Repositories, Digital Archiving, Knowledge Management, Health Informatics, and Research Methodology.
Aminu previously worked at Ahmadu Bello University as: an Institutional Digital Repository Manager, Kashim Ibrahim Library’s Head of the Digitization Unit and Head of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division, and documentalist at the Institute for French Research in Africa (IFRA) and Institute for Development Research.

Alliance Uwambaye is a librarian at Adventist School of Medicine of East-Central Africa (ASOME) in Rwanda. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology from Adventist University of Central Africa with a major in Networks Communication System. She joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2025.

Marie Confiance Uwinema is an Assistant Academic Librarian at University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) in Rwanda. Marie Confiance graduated from University of Rwanda, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and Publishing, and is now pursuing a Masters program in Computing, Library, and Information Science at Kabale University in Uganda. She joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2024.

Tirsit Wuhib is the Head Librarian at Myungsung Medical College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She holds a B.Sc. in Disaster Risk & Sustainable Development from Bahir Dar University in Ethiopia and a M.A. in Library Science & Bibliography from Minsk Institute of Culture in Belarus. Her primary area of study is Library Organization and Management with special interest in Disaster Risk Management and Sustainable Development. She joined the Better Evidence for Training program as a Champion in 2023.

Dr. Mulugeta Ayalew Yimer is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Child Health working as a clinician, researcher, and educator at the University of Gondar, Ethiopia. He is the Director of the School of Medicine at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Gondar and is a practicing pediatrician at the University of Gondar Hospital. He is also the chair of the University of Gondar Ethical Review Board for the school of medicine. He completed his undergraduate in Medicine at the Gondar College of Medicine and Health Science and completed his specialization in Pediatrics and Child Health at the University of Gondar. He received a certificate of sub specialization in Pediatric Hematology Oncology from Asian Institute of Medical sciences, Faridabad, India.

Dr. Eyobel Amentie is a General Surgeon and Assistant Professor of Surgery working as a medical professional and university instructor at Haramaya University in Harar, Ethiopia. He got his medical Doctorate Degree with a speciality in General Surgery at Haramaya University. He is currently working as the Head of School of Medicine and Clinical Coordinator at the university’s College of Health and Medical Sciences. He joined the Better Evidence Training Program in 2024.

Tadiwos Hailu is an associate professor of internal medicine at Arba Minch University, College of Medicine and Health Sciences. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Tadiwos graduated from Jimma University with a medical degree and specialty certificate in Internal Medicine and also has a Master’s degree in health professional education. He has a special interest in Medical Education.

Theodosia Adanu is currently the Acting University Librarian at the University of Ghana Legon. Prior to this, she was the College of Health Sciences Librarian, which she still oversees. She also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. She graduated from the University of Ghana, with an MPhil in library studies, and has a special interest in library automation, E-resources and information literacy.

Dr. Ibironke Akinola is a lecturer at the Lagos State University College of Medicine, and honorary consultant at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. She also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. ‘Ronke graduated from the Olabisi Onabanjo University with an MBChB degree (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery). She is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians, and of the European Society for Pediatric Endocrinology. She enjoys sharing information with students, residents and parents.


Muhumpu is an accomplished Zambian surgeon with extensive experience and special interest in emergency care and policy development. He is formerly Deputy Director for Emergency Health Services at the Ministry of Health, Zambia. He is currently in the senior academic and management structures as Dean of the School of Medicine at Cavendish University Zambia. He also serves as Better Evidence Champion.

Dr. Taiwo A. Lawal is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. He graduated from the University of Ibadan with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2000. He completed an MSc in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics from the same University and has a Doctorate Degree in Medicine from the Hannover Medical School in Germany. He is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS), the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the International College of Surgeons (FICS). His research interests are in the areas of surgical care of birth defects, pediatric colorectal disorders, outcome research and medical education. He served as the Sub-Dean (Undergraduate) MBBS in the Faculty of Clinical Sciences between 2014 and 2018 and is currently, the Sub-Dean Postgraduate. He is a reviewer for several international and local journals and serves on the editorial boards of the African Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences and Prime Medics Journal. He has over 100 publications in peer reviewed journals.

Mr. Esubalew Maru is a Multi-Media Librarian at Myungsung Medical College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He graduated from Bahir Dar University in Ethiopia with a B.Sc. in Information Technology and is currently studying for a two-year Master of Business Administration with plans to graduate in 2024. His area of specialization is Information Communication Technology. He joined Better Evidence as a Champion in 2023.

Erasto Vitus Mbugi is an Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Education at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences in Tanzania. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Erasto graduated from the Sokoine University of Agriculture, with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine specializing in Biomedical Sciences, and has a special interest in Advancing Technology in Medical Practice

Admire Mutsikiwa is a Library ICT Manager at the University of Zimbabwe. He also serves as a Champion for the Better Evidence Program. He has special interests and expertise in Free Open Source Software, Linux Administration and provision of remote access to learning resources.
Zablon Muyera is the Faculty of Health Sciences Librarian at University of Nairobi and a Better Evidence Champion. Previously, Zablon worked as a Librarian at Karatina University and as a Senior Library Assistant at Daystar University. As a member of Better Evidence team, he trains and assists faculty and students at the University of Nairobi on registration and use of UpToDate database. Zablon holds a Master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences from Kenyatta University, and a BA in Community Development from Daystar University, Kenya.

Masimba C. Muziringa is the Deputy Librarian at the University of Zimbabwe. He also serves as a Champion for the Better Evidence Program. He has special interests in Information Skills for Evidence-Based Healthcare, Evidence Gap Mapping, Systematic Reviews and Rapid Reviews. He is involved in various capacity building initiatives for healthcare professionals and policy-makers in leveraging knowledge to support policy and practice.

Dr. Nestor Nsengiyumva is a consultant neurologist with a special interest in movement disorders and Epilepsy, currently serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Hope Africa University in Bujumbura, Burundi. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Dr. Nsengiyumva graduated from Rostov State Medical University in Russia. After his Neurology Residency at RUDN University in Moscow, he did a six month clinical training fellowship in Movement Disorder at The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust, Liverpool, UK , funded by the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society, European Section. Nestor additionally did training in EEG with the Moroccan Society of Neurophysiology.

Dr. Nahom Worku Teshager is an Associate professor of Pediatrics and Child Health at the University of Gondar. He is currently a clinician at the University of Gondar Comprehensive specialized hospital and an academic coordinator for the school of Medicine. He also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Dr. Nahom graduated from the University of Gondar College of Medicine and Health Sciences with a Doctor of Medicine degree in Medicine in 2015 and a Specialty Certificate in Pediatrics and Child Health in 2020. He has a special interest in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Clinical Nutrition.

Mercy Monde Wamunyima is a Medical Librarian at The University of Zambia medical library. She also serves as a Better Evidence Champion. Mercy Monde graduated from The University of Zambia, with a BALIS and MLIS. She has a special interest in Evidence Based Medicine, EBP, EPN, Evidence Based Interventions as well as consumer health information.


Dr. Amdetsiyon Yemane is the School of Medicine Dean and a Doctor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wolaita Sodo University in Ethiopia. Dr. Amdetsiyon graduated from Mekel University and earned a Doctor of Medicine specialized in Gynecology and Obstetrics from Addis Ababa University. He has a special interest in teaching, learning, and engaging in research and scientific advancement. He joined the Better Evidence for Training program in 2023.
