Golden Lab’s Planetary Health Research Group
The Golden Lab uses planetary health approaches to examine the human health impacts of climate and environmental change. Our team is split into two, with half of us focusing on data science approaches to establishing systems of climate-smart public health, and the other half focusing on healthy and sustainable food systems, with a particular focus on aquatic foods.

Bryan P. Galligan

Bryan P. Galligan, S.J., is a Jesuit priest and doctoral student in Public Health Nutrition. His research focuses on nutrition-sensitive management of coral reef fisheries to improve food and nutrition security while sustaining marine ecosystems. He combines fisheries science methods, such as ecosystem and catch monitoring, with analyses of nutrient production and the use of aquatic foods to understand how coral reef fisheries contribute to sustainable healthy diets in coastal communities. His previous research has examined the nutritional implications of gear-based management, environmental drivers of the nutrient composition of fish catches, and the sustainability and productivity of fished populations. Before beginning his doctoral studies, Bryan worked at the Jesuit Justice and Ecology Network Africa in Nairobi, Kenya, where he conducted research on Western Indian Ocean reef fisheries and supported policy advocacy in the UN system.
