The Community Safety Evaluation Lab (CSE-Lab) studies the nature, causes, and consequences of violence and its impact on public health. We address these issues through a multidisciplinary approach, focusing on youth violence and violent extremism to improve community safety.

About Courtney Tassin
Courtney is a licensed professional counselor with a masters degree in forensic psychology from the University of Denver. She currently serves as a Domestic Security Strategist for the U.S. Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) where she collaborates with community safety partners to facilitate awareness of and access to NTAC’s free targeted violence prevention resources such as trainings and consultations. She provides NTAC briefings and assists with consultations for BTAM policy and complex threat cases. She is stationed at the Denver Field Office where she oversees the outreach efforts for seven states.
Prior to joining NTAC, she was the Crisis Intervention Program Manager with the City of Aurora, CO where she developed two co-responder programs to include an internationally recognized Targeted Violence Prevention program. During her tenure, she oversaw five multi-disciplinary crisis programs within emergency services and actively responded to 911 calls for service. She pioneered the Aurora Police Department’s (APD) integrated response for hostage negotiations and she served as a clinical advisor for the APD Crisis Negotiations Team. Courtney filled multiple roles within the APD Co-Response program to include Targeted Violence Prevention Specialist, Co-Response Crisis Clinician, and Clinical Case Manager. Courtney also has experience working within community mental health centers and maximum security prisons.
This lecture describes the use of dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). DBT is designed to teach strategies in distress tolerance, effective communication, self-awareness, and emotional regulation.
