Implementation Science Center for Cancer Control Equity
The Implementation Science Center for Cancer Control Equity (ISCCCE) is one of seven such centers funded by the National Cancer Institute Moonshot Initiative. ISCCCE aims to develop sustainable strategies for ensuring that all patients have access to evidence-based cancer prevention and control.
Development and Feasibility of Methods for Stakeholder and Equity Data-Driven Implementation in Cancer Control and Prevention
Project summary
To advance equitable implementation of evidence-based interventions (EBIs), researchers need pragmatic tools and applied approaches to identify and prioritize health equity targets and rapidly design and test promising solutions to addressing gaps in service access and outcomes of EBIs. Our team is conducting formative research on the development of a Stakeholder and Equity Data-Driven Implementation (SEDDI) process where healthcare partners use their own clinic data to identify patient groups that experience gaps in outreach, use, access and or benefits from EBIs and adapt EBIs and evaluate adaptations to address gaps in care. We applied SEDDI in a pilot hybrid implementation-effectiveness trial of a dual colorectal cancer (CRC) and social needs screening intervention at four federally qualified community health centers (FQHCs). An external facilitator partnered with FQHC implementation teams over eight months supporting a base implementation phase followed by the SEDDI phase delivered in bi-weekly or monthly sessions. Preliminary evaluation of SEDDI involved concurrent mixed methods with post-implementation surveys and focus groups. Results from this formative research will inform further development of methods for providing stakeholder and data-driven implementation facilitation to identify and prioritize equity targets and guiding adaptations to improve implementation and health outcomes.
