Dear Department Administrators and Associate Directors of Finance:
Please share this important shipping information with all shippers in your Harvard Chan Departments.
The European Union (EU) is implementing a new Import Control System on March 1st, 2023 which will require additional information for shipments going to EU countries, as well as Northern Ireland, Norway and Switzerland. These rules apply to all goods (except documents), regardless of value.
The main changes are the following:
- Shippers will need to provide a minimum six-digit Harmonized Systems (HS) code, also referred to as Schedule B number.
- Provide an accurate (and more detailed) goods descriptions, (just entering “DNA” might not be sufficient).
- Provide an EORI number of the recipient.
- EORI stands for Economic Operators Registration and Identification number https://taxation-customs.ec.europa.eu/customs-4/customs-procedures-import-and-export-0/customs-procedures/economic-operators-registration-and-identification-number-eori_en
- Shippers should ask the recipient of the shipment to provide them with their EORI numbers.
