Hemenway wins highest SAVIR award

In April, David Hemenway was presented with the SAVIR (Society for the Advancement of Violence and Injury Research) President’s award for “distinguished lifetime achievement. This award is the highest that SAVIR can bestow on a member.”

In the past 12 months, all four of the HICRC leaders have received major awards.

  • Deb Azrael: won the APHA injury section Excellence in Science award;
  • Matt Miller: was elected into the National Academy of Medicine; and the incredible
  • Cathy Barber won (a) the Lifetime Achievement award from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, (b) the Distinguished Career Public Service Award from the APHA injury section; and (c) the CDC and Joyce Foundation established the “Catherine Barber NVDRS Commitment Award” to support an early career injury prevention researcher annually with a scholarship of $25,000 to use NVDRS data. In the previous year (d) CDC had presented her with the inaugural Len Paulozzi Memorial NVDRS Research/Action Award!
