Maia Mesyngier defends thesis on novel TB vaccine strategy

A graduate student in the Fortune Lab, Maia is presenting “Protective Intravenous BCG Vaccination Mediates Durable Changes to the Lung in a Tuberculosis Challenge Mode” on Friday, May 15, 2026.
Maia’s thesis has focused on using single cell transcriptomic and cellular assays to identify new ways by which hosts protect against Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. By studying long term changes in immune responses after vaccination, her work is identifying unexpected lung cell types that can be reprogrammed by vaccination and may be attractive targets for next generation vaccine design.
