Meet the recipients of the 2025 Alumni Awards

Morissa Henn, Anthony Chen, Eugenio Fernandez, Michael Fiore, and Matthew Mimiaga

Every year during Alumni Weekend, the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health community celebrates alumni who are making their mark in public health around the world. Alumni & Reunion Weekend is September 26-27.

The Alumni Award of Merit—the highest honor presented by the School’s Alumni Association—recognizes alumni whose careers reflect a lifetime of impact.

This year’s Award of Merit winners:

  • Michael Fiore, MPH ’85, is a pioneer in smoking cessation who has devoted his career to helping millions of Americans live longer, healthier, tobacco-free lives
  • Matthew Mimiaga, SD ’07, founding director of UCLA’s Center for LGBTQ+ Advocacy, Research & Health, has built a career leading research and education efforts to promote inclusive health among sexual and gender minorities and marginalized communities worldwide

Three additional awards honor alumni who are advancing health equity, shaping policies, and spearheading thoughtful solutions to today’s challenges:

  • Morissa Henn, DrPH ’19, recipient of the Emerging Public Health Professional Award, is building on her national recognition for data-driven suicide prevention strategies by leading reforms in psychiatric care and juvenile justice in New Hampshire
  • Anthony L-T Chen, MPH ’06, recipient of the Leadership Award in Public Health Practice, has led major advances in Washington State’s vaccine, tobacco, and health equity strategies and policies
  • Eugenio Fernandez, MPH ’16, recipient of the Public Health Innovator Award, uses his community-focused pharmacy to help individuals make informed decisions and increase health accessibility in Rhode Island

The 2025 award recipients reflect the vastness of public health, as well as the School’s mission to improve health and promote equity so everyone can thrive.
