Register for the Harvard Chan Day of Service!

To the Harvard Chan community,

I’m delighted to announce that registration is open for the Harvard Chan Community Day of Service on Monday, Sept. 29.

This is an annual event that brings together our full community—students, staff, faculty, trainees, and other academic appointees—to work side by side supporting nonprofits and neighborhood groups that are tackling social determinants of health across Boston.

You could distribute groceries at a food pantry, cook a nutritious meal for families dealing with chronic illness, set up beds in a temporary shelter for unhoused youth, tend to green space in the Public Garden, write cards for nursing home residents facing loneliness… or participate in more than a dozen other projects.

New this year, we will be expanding the Day of Service to host an American Red Cross Blood Drive on campus on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Whether you can spare a few minutes or a few hours, you can contribute in meaningful ways. Many of the projects and the Blood Drive have a limited number of slots, so I urge you to sign up soon!

Participation in Community Day of Service activities will be considered part of the regular workday for all employees. I hope our remote students and colleagues will join the spirit of service as well, and I encourage managers to approve up to a half day on Sept. 29 for remote staff to volunteer.

All the projects we’ll be tackling advance our mission to create a world where everyone can thrive. I’m proud to be part of a community dedicated to this vital work.

I look forward to joining you in service later this month.

Best,

Andrea
