MD Candidate at UC San Diego School of Medicine – Class of 2026

Ishan (He/Him) is a current medical student at UC San Diego, now pursuing a masters in public health in health policy at the Harvard School of Public Health. In medical school, Ishan was an active leader of the LGBTQ+ advocacy group and helped organize events such as Rainbow Pin Ceremony, Transgender Day of Remembrance, and Transgender Week of Action. As a Sanford Scholar, he led research on how gender minority stress impacted the intersectional development of mental health conditions among Trans women. At Chan, Ishan is a LGBTQ Health Equity Fellowship awardee and is currently working with Trans Health HQ to help develop a centralized clinician hub for physicians to easily access resources to guide care for Trans patients. He aims to get involved in research on changes and interpretations of gender and sexual fluidity with the GenderWise Lab at Harvard Chan. As an aspiring Emergency Medicine physician, he is eager to further conduct research on crisis management for LGBTQ+ populations in emergency settings. In his free time Ishan is an avid musician and photographer, with a desire to break into photojournalism as a medium for LGBTQ+ Advocacy.
