The mission of the SOGIE Collaborative is to advance health equity for all communities, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity and expression.

Dr. Fernando (Fer) Salinas-Quiroz is Assistant Professor for Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Study and Human Development at Tufts University, and Head of ‘Abby and Anna’ SOGIE Lab. Fer -a (light) Brown, able-bodied, trans genderqueer Mexican immigrant-, approaches their research through a lens of reflexivity, with an understanding that their own experiences and position in the world have shaped the focus of their work. They have been awarded as a National Researcher, Mexico’s National System of Researchers, National Council of Science and Technology –CONACYT, Government of the Republic of Mexico. From 2013-2021 they were on faculty at the National Pedagogic University (Mexico) as a Full Professor. Co-Founder of the Society for Research in Child Development’ SOGIE Caucus.

Fer has been a guest speaker at national and international events, and a lecturer and thesis director in different undergraduate and graduate programs in Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Greece, Portugal, The Netherlands, USA, and Uruguay. They specialize in working with 2SPLGBTQIA+ individuals, “non-traditional” families and are passionate about nonbinary children.  Their aim is to interrogate dominant theories about Human Development as well as to trans Child Studies! Outside of academia, Fer is passionate about practicing/teaching Ashtanga yoga, dancing, laughing, and trying to spread kindness and compassion.
