Ellis Barrera

Ellis Barrera is a medical student at UMass Chan Medical School with a dedicated background in transgender healthcare. Prior to medical school, he worked for four years at Boston Children’s Hospital, focusing on research projects in fertility preservation, surgical outcomes, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) studies, and the cardiovascular impacts of HRT. Currently, Ellis is involved in projects examining gender-affirming surgery outcomes, particularly exploring how multidisciplinary care influences surgical success and complication rates. His work is driven by a commitment to improve the quality of and access to trans healthcare, aiming to inform patient care through research. Outside of his studies and research, Ellis is an avid marathon runner, trivia enthusiast, and enjoys playing guitar.
