Asia Fares
Research Fellow, Center of Excellence in Maternal & Child Health, Boston University
Asia Fares (she/her) is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health at Boston University, with functional certificates in Global Health Program Design, Monitoring, and Evaluation, and Health Policy and Law. She is a Maternal and Child Health Research Fellow working under Allegra Gordon, contributing to the Interactive Media and Gender-Related Stressors and Strengths (IMAGES) Study, which investigates social media use and its relationship to risk and resilience factors for substance use and disordered eating behaviors among transgender and gender-diverse young adults.
Her work is grounded in advancing health equity through policy, research, and community-informed action, with a focus on how structural inequities and institutional power shape health outcomes for historically marginalized communities of color. With a background in justice and law, psychology, Asia has contributed to mixed-methods research across academic, governmental, and humanitarian settings, including projects on HIV viral suppression among Black women, food access inequities in higher education, and psychosocial and mental health services in conflict-affected settings.
Across her work, Asia prioritizes translating research into policy-relevant insights and actionable recommendations that challenge inequitable systems. As a member of the SOGIE Health Equity Collaborative, she is committed to justice-oriented, interdisciplinary approaches that advance structural change in LGBTQ+ health equity.
