Beiwe Service Center
Overview
The purpose of the Beiwe Service Center (BSC) is to make the Beiwe platform available to investigators anywhere as a service. Under this model, we create the Beiwe study on our production version of the Beiwe platform that runs on our AWS account. This model is not a scientific collaboration with the Onnela Lab, but instead makes it possible for investigators to use Beiwe without having to deploy and maintain their own version of the open source code base. The fee of the service is used to cover operational costs, fix software bugs, and maintain the platform. The costing model that is used to calculate the cost to investigators for using Beiwe through the BSC is explained below. If you’re interested in using Beiwe as a service through BSC, please fill out this form, and we’ll be in touch shortly.
Costing Model
The Beiwe Service Center’s costing model calculates pricing using two main components: a fixed monthly fee based on the total duration of the study (T) and a variable fee tied to the total number of Active Participant Months, determined by multiplying the number of participants (N) by the length of data collection per participant (L). If there are gaps in data collection (G), an additional 0.5 months per gap is added to the data collection period (L). It’s important to note that rates are subject to periodic revisions, but study teams will always be notified at least 30 days in advance of any pricing changes.
Study Parameters:
- N: The number of participants in the study
- L (in months): The period of time data will be collected from each study participant
- T (in months): The total study duration or period of service through the BSC
- I.E. The time from enrollment of the first participant to the completion of data collection of the last enrolled study participant
- G: The number of gaps in data collection, if applicable
- 0.5 months is added to L (data collection period) for each gap in data collection
Pricing Structure:
- Active Participant Months = N (Subjects) x L (Data Collection Period)
- Fixed Monthly Cost: $1,937/month
- Based on the total study duration (T)
- Variable Cost: $6/Active Participant Month
FY24 Example Pricing
Example 1.
A university-based investigator wants to collected data for N=50 subjects, where length of data collection per subject is L=3 months, and study duration is T=12 months. The total cost of the contract is $24,144.
Example 2.
A university-based investigator wants to collected data for N=25 subjects, where length of data collection per subject is L=12 months and study duration is T=12 months. The total cost of the contract is $25,044.
Example 3.
An investigator based at a for-profit entity wants to collected data for N=160 subjects, where length of data collection per subject is L=3 months, and study duration is T=12 months. The total cost of the contract is $27,564.
