Martha Tamez

Dr. Martha Tamez is a Research Fellow in the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She earned her B.A. in Nutrition and Wellbeing from the Monterrey Institute of Technology (Mexico City, Mexico) and her M.S. in Nutrition from the Mexican National Institute of Public Health (Cuernavaca, Mexico). Dr. Tamez completed her Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) in Nutrition at Harvard University in 2020 and subsequently trained as a T32 Postdoctoral Fellow in Cardiovascular Epidemiology.

Dr. Tamez’s research integrates nutritional epidemiology, diet assessment, and cardiometabolic health. Her work focuses on understanding how diet quality, traditional dietary patterns, and lifestyle factors influence metabolic outcomes in Hispanic/Latino populations across the United States and Puerto Rico. Using large, population-based studies, she applies advanced epidemiologic and statistical methods to examine long-term associations between nutrition, behavior, and chronic disease risk. She is also the Co-Chair of the Diet Scientific Interest Group within the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL), where she contributes to collaborative efforts advancing nutrition-related research in this landmark cohort. Her goal is to generate evidence that supports culturally informed dietary recommendations and effective public health strategies for diverse populations.
