About the Center

The LGBTQ Health Center of Excellence was founded in 2024 through a first-of-its-kind partnership between the Harvard Chan School and the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute. The Center aims to improve the health of a growing and diverse LGBTQ population, with a specific focus on reducing and preventing health inequities that impact LGBTQ communities. To do this, the Center embraces a multi-pronged approach, including training LGBTQ health leaders, catalyzing new research, and disseminating information about LGBTQ health to policy makers, healthcare providers, and the public.

The LGBTQ Health Center of Excellence is offering funding to support Harvard Chan students and postdoctoral fellows working to advance health equity for LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex) communities.

Funding is available for research projects on LGBTQ+ health and conference stipends to present, organize, and moderate LGBTQ+ health content at professional conferences.

Research projects | $5,000 maximum

Conference stipends | $2,500 maximum

Funding is considered a “non-qualified (taxable) fellowship payment” which would be treated as income to the student or postdoc. More information is available at: Fellowships and Reimbursements for StudentsFellowship Payments Frequently Asked QuestionsFellowship Payments FAQs

Applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM ET Friday, January 31, 2025.

After the research project or conference concludes, awardees will give a brief, in-person presentation at an event designed to cultivate a learning community.

Funded activities must be completed before the student graduates, or the postdoc concludes their fellowship, and within 12 months of award receipt.

Please use the Apply button below.

One letter of support from a Harvard faculty member is required for research project applications. The letter should describe an applicant’s capacity to successfully complete their proposed project independently or with support from faculty. As a professional courtesy, please allow enough lead time for faculty to submit their letter to lgbtqhealthexcellence@hsph.harvard.edu by January 31, 2025 11:59 PM ET.

A letter of support is not required for conference stipend applications.

Funding is available to support field practice projects on LGBTQ+ health through the Office of Field Education and Practice.
