Global Health Policy Lab
The Global Health Policy Lab (GHPL) is a joint initiative between the Charité Center for Global Health (Berlin), the Health Systems Innovation Lab at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the Virchow Foundation, and an expanding global network of partners. Its mission is to empower governments, civil society, and private sector actors with the tools and insights needed to accelerate the translation of science-informed recommendations into concrete laws, policies, and interventions.
GHPL’s main asset is its Digital Repository for Health Policy, an open-access, AI-enabled platform that systematically collects, structures, and analyses health policy documents from across countries. Unlike general-purpose AI tools, the Repository is grounded exclusively in validated policy documents and curated metadata, ensuring transparency, traceability, and reproducibility. This allows users to search and compare policy approaches based on authoritative sources, supporting responsible use of evidence in policy contexts.
As part of this initiative, the Health Systems Innovation Lab developed a comparative policy analysis tool, designed to enable users to benchmark health policies across jurisdictions and assess their alignment with global health standards.
The Repository is complemented by analytical outputs, including the Health Policy Trend Report — the first edition of which launched in March 2026 — and by ongoing engagement with policy communities to ensure relevance to real-world decision-making.
GHPL’s approach aligns with the WHO Global Strategy on Digital Health and its commitment to equitable access to quality health services.
