Week 6: Non-Directly Transmitted and Genetically Diverse Pathogens

This week, we will cover four case studies of adaptations of simple models to accommodate pathogens that are transmitted by more than one host (e.g., mosquito vectors) or through the environment (e.g., water-borne diseases). We will also discuss some of the modeling challenges associated with increasing the complexity of models to integrate the nuances of transmission, in particular in relation to genetically diverse pathogens that are characterized by multiple strains.

6.1 Vector-Borne Infections: Malaria

6.2 Water-Borne Infections: Cholera

6.3 Multi-Strain Pathogens
