Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics

The Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics works to improve methods for infectious disease modeling and statistical analysis, quantify disease and intervention impact, engage with policymakers to enhance decision-making, and train the next generation of scientists.

Week 3: Infectious Disease Models II

This week we discuss elaborations of SIR models that accommodate different epidemiological dynamics that are important for epidemic trajectories, such as the latent period. We will extend these to include non-directly transmitted infectious diseases like those transmitted by insects or through water. We will also discuss how to calculate R0 and focus on the contact rate as a critical, but often difficult to estimate, parameter of our dynamical models.
