Use Beiwe
Beiwe as a Service
The Beiwe Service Center (BSC) allows investigators to use the Beiwe platform under a Software as a Service (SaaS) model. We create a Beiwe study on our production version of the Beiwe platform running on AWS. This service makes it possible for investigators to use Beiwe without having to deploy and maintain their own version of the open source code base.
Service through the BSC includes:
- Comprehensive study design and configuration support
- Assistance with IRB documentation of Beiwe platform
- In-depth platform training for your team
- Four-week beta testing phase to ensure setup accuracy
- Ongoing participant troubleshooting and technical support throughout your study
- Access to both raw data and summary metrics for in-depth insights
- Final data analysis at study completion using production Forest packages
Using Beiwe through the Beiwe Service Center is not a scientific collaboration with the Onnela Lab*
Cost of Service
The Beiwe Service Center’s costing model calculates pricing using two main components: a fixed monthly fee based on the total duration of the study (T) and a variable fee tied to the total number of Active Participant Months, determined by multiplying the number of participants (N) by the length of data collection per participant (L). If there are gaps in data collection (G), an additional 0.5 months per gap is added to the data collection period (L). It’s important to note that rates are subject to periodic revisions, but study teams will always be notified at least 30 days in advance of any pricing changes.
Study Parameters:
- N: The number of participants in the study
- L (in months): The period of time data will be collected from each study participant
- T (in months): The total study duration or period of service through the BSC
- I.E. The time from enrollment of the first participant to the completion of data collection of the last enrolled study participant
- G: The number of gaps in data collection, if applicable
- 0.5 months is added to L (data collection period) for each gap in data collection
Pricing Structure:
- Fixed Monthly Cost: $4,200/month
- Based on the total study duration (T)
- Variable Cost: $8/Active Participant Month
- Active Participant Months = N (Subjects) x L (Data Collection Period)
FY26 Example Pricing
Example 1
A university-based investigator wants to collected data for N=100 subjects, where length of data collection per subject is L=1 months, and study duration is T=3 months. The total cost of the contract is $13,400.
Example 2
A university-based investigator wants to collected data for N=100 subjects, where length of data collection per subject is L=6 months and study duration is T=12 months. The total cost of the contract is $55,200.
Example 3
An investigator based at a for-profit entity wants to collected data for N=100 subjects, where length of data collection per subject is L=12 months, and study duration is T=24 months. The total cost of the contract is $110,400.
See Beiwe in Action
The Beiwe platform consists of the Beiwe Administrator Dashboard used by study teams to configure and manage a study as well as the iOS and Android applications used by study participants.
The Beiwe Administrator Dashboard is designed for study teams to configure and manage their study. Study teams are able to configure passive data collection, configure both active response and audio recording surveys, manage study participants, monitor data collection, download raw data, and process raw data into summary metrics using our Forest library.

The Beiwe app is designed to collect passive data in the background while also deploying both active surveys and audio recording surveys to users on configurable schedules.
