Biography
Dr. Sean Brummel is a Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Biostatistics at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where he serves as a senior statistician at the Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research (CBAR). His expertise focuses on the design, monitoring, and analysis of clinical trials studying HIV treatment during pregnancy and postpartum, as well as epidemiological research in youth affected by HIV. As a co-director of the Epidemiological and Statistical Methods Core for the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study (PHACS) and a key member of the International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Group (IMPAACT), Dr. Brummel develops statistical methodologies to address unique challenges in perinatal and maternal HIV research. His research includes estimating summary statistics when the time origin is pregnancy, analyzing longitudinally collected viral load measurements, and clarifying clinical trial design concepts. Dr. Brummel also contributes to the field through his service on data safety monitoring boards and by mentoring the next generation of biostatisticians.
