Introducing the Department of Molecular Metabolism

October 21, 2019 – The Department of Genetics and Complex Diseases at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health has officially changed its name to the Department of Molecular Metabolism.

“After consultation with the faculty and academic council, we are changing the name of our department to the Department of Molecular Metabolism. We believe this name better reflects the discipline in which we study and the focus of our faculty research,” said Robert Farese, chair of the department. “Non-communicable diseases, such as metabolic diseases, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders, are huge global problems that adversely affect public health and aging. Our goal is to delineate the root causes of these disorders, with a focus on metabolism, to inform public health in new ways.”

Researchers in the Department of Molecular Metabolism aim to transform our understanding of wellness and disease while developing novel approaches to address major challenges to global public health.
