Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the pet food company Hill’s Pet Nutrition have launched a web portal that provides public resources for researching the link between pet microbiomes and health.

Part of the One Health Microbiome Resource initiative, the portal includes data from over 2,000 pet gut microbiome samples—including from dogs and cats—lab experiment protocols, and software for data analysis.

“Our pets’ diets and environments mirror human experiences. Studying their microbiomes offers valuable insight into diagnostics, preventative care, and treatment outcomes [for people],” said Curtis Huttenhower, professor of computational biology and bioinformatics, who leads the initiative at Harvard Chan School.
