Mission and Vision

Our mission and vision serve as guiding principles that inspire our efforts to educate future leaders, conduct transformative research, and implement solutions to today’s most pressing public health challenges.

Our Vision

Health, dignity, and justice for every human.

Our Mission

The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health works to improve health and promote equity so everyone can thrive. Together, we:

Discover

Research drivers of health, disease, and inequity and develop powerful solutions.

Teach

Train creative leaders to identify, analyze, and tackle challenges to population health.

Engage

Collaborate with policy makers, practitioners, and the public to drive meaningful change.

Building blocks for a healthier world

The graphic elements you see throughout our website are inspired by the crucial work of public health.

The interlocking building blocks can be unfurled to show the winding path toward scientific discovery, linked to signify system-building and civic engagement, or clustered to represent vibrant communities of teaching and learning.

The patterns these blocks create also evoke some of the core tools of public health: Genetic code, computer matrices, data plots, population centers, even antibodies.

We use these building blocks in our visual brand as a reminder of our mission: to discover, teach, engage — and to work collaboratively across disciplines and continents to shape a world where everyone can thrive.
