Fostering Advancement and Careers through Enrichment Training in Science (FACETS) is a research-intensive summer program hosted by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Program Overview
FACETS offers participants coursework as well as professional development and networking opportunities.
Participants in the six-week program explore public health research topics with the help of a research mentor and a graduate student mentor.
They also take interdisciplinary classes focusing on social and behavioral sciences, global health and population, environmental science, career navigation, and statistics.
In addition, participants receive guidance and support from peers and faculty across the entire School, and build connections with world-renowned faculty such as David Christiani, Max Essex, Phyllis Kanki, Nancy Krieger, Eric Rimm, George Seage, Walter Willett, David Williams, and Michelle Williams.
Program Dates
The 2025 FACETS program runs from Monday, June 2 to Friday, July 11, 2025.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the criteria below:
- Be 18 years or older
- Be U.S. citizens or permanent residents
- Be from an underrepresented group in graduate research, which includes first-generation college students and students from an economically disadvantaged background as defined by the U.S. Department of Education. Eligibility is not restricted on the basis of race or ethnicity, and race and ethnicity are not considered in the selection process.
- Be undergraduate students in their sophomore or junior years when applying. Students who have graduated from college can also apply as long as they have not graduated more than two years before, are not employed or enrolled in graduate studies, have not earned an advanced degree, and are not in the process of applying to graduate school.
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or above
- Have a demonstrated interest in public health
Financial Support
Financial support over the course of six weeks includes a stipend of $4,000, a travel allowance, partial meal stipend, and free dormitory housing.

- A letter of recommendation from a professor who can speak to your scientific capabilities (please do not submit recommendations from high school teachers or individuals who do not know you in an academic capacity). Emails will be sent out to your contacts directly, using the email addresses provided, with a link to upload documents into the online application on behalf of each applicant.
- Resume – listing all applicable professional and academic experience to date
Personal statement – a typed statement that should not be longer than one page describing your academic and professional interests, your reason for applying to the program, the insight you hope to gain, and the ways the program will influence your academic trajectory.
