Biography
Stephen H. Mahle was named Executive Vice President of Healthcare Policy and Regulatory in April 2008. In this role, Steve is responsible for government affairs, global reimbursement, regulatory, and clinical functions at Medtronic, providing a more strategic approach to policy issues. Most recently he served as Executive Vice President and Senior Healthcare Policy Advisor where he worked to develop industry and professional policies to advance patient care and address changes in the U.S. healthcare environment. In addition, Steve continues to chair the Medtronic Foundation and serves on the Medtronic Executive Committee and Corporate Strategy Committee.
Steve joined Medtronic in 1972 and has held numerous senior leadership positions with the company including Executive Vice President and President of Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management; President of the Brady Pacing Business; and Vice President of Worldwide Strategy and Planning. For 17 years, Steve led Medtronic’s largest division as President of the Pacing Business and subsequently as President of CRDM growing the business from $800K to $4.8B.
Prior to his tenure with Medtronic, Steve was a Captain in the U.S. Army where he served as a Research Scientist at the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston. Steve received his Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Physics from Beloit College in 1967, and his Master’s degree in Physics from Pennsylvania State University in 1969. He is presently Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of Beloit College, a member of the Board of Advisors for Penn State University, and a board member of both the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and Advanced Material Technology, Inc.
