Biography

Philip Parks, MD, MPH, FACOEM, is currently a Program Manager in Biomedical Systems at the Draper Laboratory. He leads Draper’s Medical Analytics and Decision Systems business area where he directs multidisciplinary engineering teams in efforts to solve some of the most challenging problems in medicine and healthcare.

Dr. Parks is also a strategic advisor at H21, a company that he founded to provide Corporate Health and Security solutions and consulting services. H21 has partnered with Partners in Health to develop occupational health programs and a public health liaison function that supports PIH’s mission in over 13 countries. Dr. Parks is an attending physician and Clinical Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Cambridge Health Alliance. In addition to his clinical and teaching role at Cambridge Health Alliance, Dr. Parks is also a guest lecturer and Visiting Scientist at the Harvard T.H. School of Public Health and provides career seminars to Harvard Occupational Medicine physicians in residency training. He currently serves as a member of the Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency Advisory Committee.

Prior to his current roles, Dr. Parks was formally a distinguished member of the technical staff at the Draper Laboratory in the Human-Centered Engineering group. He has expertise in multi-disciplinary research, human-centered engineering, and technology integration for human performance measurement and evaluation. Dr. Parks was also the New England Regional Medical Director for Quadrant Health Strategies, Inc., a provider of comprehensive corporate occupational health services. Dr. Parks worked with corporate clients in the biotechnology sector to design, implement, measure, and optimize occupational health and safety programs.

Dr. Parks was a physician executive at Lifespan Corporation, Rhode Island’s largest healthcare system and second largest employer. At Lifespan, Dr. Parks was the Medical Director of Lifespan’s self-insured health plan and Medical Director of Lifespan’s enterprise-wide Occupational and Employee Health Services for four hospitals in Rhode Island. He is a recognized expert and thought leader and has published high impact articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Parks received his M.D. and M.P.H. from Tulane University, earned a second Master’s degree in Occupational Health from the Harvard School of Public Health, and completed his residency training in Occupational Medicine at the Harvard Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency program. Dr. Parks is also a Senior Fellow at the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative where he provides expertise in humanitarian assistance and disaster response. He is board certified in Occupational Medicine, a member of the New England College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Board of Directors, a Fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, and a diplomate of the American Board of Preventive Medicine. Dr. Parks has served on active duty as Undersea Medical Officer and Senior Medical Officer in the US Navy, and achieved the rank of Commander.
