Biography
Manuel Cifuentes, ScD, MD, MPH, is a Public Health Researcher and the Senior Biostatistician in the Center for Health Policy and Research at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Until August, 2015 he was an Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the Department of Work Environment at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where he continues advising research activities of doctoral students. He is a former scientist of the Liberty Mutual Research Institute and an Assistant Professor of the University of Concepcion Medical School in Chile.
Dr. Cifuentes is a Clinical Specialist in adult psychiatry and he holds a doctoral degree in occupational epidemiology. His expertise covers occupational and non-occupational health services research, the links between biological and psychological correlations in public health, evaluation of public health interventions, and musculoskeletal and psychosocial exposure in occupational settings. Dr. Cifuentes has been PI and investigator in numerous grants, a methodological consultant of Public Health Departments, and has been an invited presenter in national research agencies. Both the United States and Chile have awarded Dr. Cifuentes for his research and teaching efforts. He was awarded a National Epidemiology Research Award while in Chile, and was also awarded three Teaching Awards along with Minor Grants and Mid-Sized Subcontracts during his tenure at University of Massachusetts Lowell.
