Carlos Alberto Larrauri, JD, MPA, MSN
Biography
Carlos A. Larrauri, JD, MPA, APRN, is co-chair of the Accelerating Medicines Partnership® Schizophrenia (AMP® SCZ) and has previously served on the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and NAMI Miami-Dade County Board of Directors. Diagnosed with schizophrenia at 23 years of age, access to quality mental health care, community-based treatment, and early intervention afforded him the best opportunity for recovery.
Mr. Larrauri earned his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School, where he served as an Editor of the Michigan Law Review, and a concurrent master in public administration at the Harvard Kennedy School, where he was a Zuckerman Fellow at Harvard’s Center for Public Leadership. He also holds a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Miami. He is board certified as a family nurse practitioner and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and formerly lectured at the University of Miami and Miami Dade College.
Mr. Larrauri is committed to integrating advocacy and research to address health inequities faced by individuals living with mental illness. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as World Psychiatry, Schizophrenia Bulletin, Psychiatric Services, and Early Intervention in Psychiatry, with forthcoming chapters in publications from Cambridge University Press and the American Psychiatric Association. Leveraging both his professional background and lived experience, he collaborates on research related to mental health policy and schizophrenia, striving to advance knowledge and develop effective solutions.
