Biography

Babak (Bob) Farahpour is a registered Mechanical Engineering serving as a program Officer at National Institutes of Allergy and Infection Disease (NIAID) at the Office of Biodefense Research Affairs. He has more than 15 years of experience in design and construction of Mechanical systems for Biomedical facilities. Bob was the prime mechanical reviewer for the latest and highly complex High containment facilities (BSL-3/BSL-4) built by NIH/NIAID. As the Chairperson of High Containment Committee he was responsible for finishing the new Biocontainment (High Containment) volume of the new guidelines for NIH Design Requirement Manual, which has been published on January of 2009.

At the Office of Biodefense Research Affairs he is responsible for planning, coordinating and managing several Regional Biocontainment Laboratories (RBL) across the nation. He is also providing technical support for several other RBLs and National Biocontainment Laboratories.
