ABSTRACT
Sweden provides a unique opportunity for healthcare research in large populations, with longitudinal data and virtually no loss of follow-up. Through the personal identity number population-based registers can be linked including the Patient Register, the Cause of Death Register, the Cancer Register, the Medical Birth Register, the Prescription Register etc. Furthermore Sweden have some 100 quality registers. Ludvigsson will also provide details of the nationwide gastrointestinal histopathology cohort ESPRESSO, as well as the opportunity to conduct multigenerational studies. Over the years he has published more than 100 scientific papers with collaborators from Harvard.

Dr. Ludvigsson is one of the world’s leading experts in pediatric epidemiology and former chair of the Swedish Society of Epidemiology (2011-14). He is a senior pediatrician, former chair of the Swedish Society of Pediatrics (2014-16) and was recently elected scientific secretary of the Swedish Society of Medicine. Dr Ludvigsson is a professor of Clinical Epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, but also holds a position as Adjunct Professor in Medicine, at Columbia University (US).
