Update on FXB Center transition planning
To the Harvard Chan community,
I would like to share an update on transition planning at the FXB Center for Health & Human Rights as we continue to refine the Center’s focus and prepare for a thoughtful and effective search for the next director.
To support operational continuity, I am pleased to let you know that Jehane Sedky will continue in her role as executive director of the FXB Center. She will report to Jorge E. Chavarro, dean for academic affairs, during the transition period. I am grateful to Jehane for her continued leadership and to Jorge for his support.
During the transition period, the FXB Center will be supported by a faculty advisory committee rather than an interim director. The committee will help guide the Center and lay the groundwork for the forthcoming director search.
The committee will consist of:
- Dara Kay Cohen, Professor of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School.
- Stephanie M. Jones, Gerald S. Lesser Professor in Early Childhood Development and Faculty Co-Chair, Early Childhood Concentration, at Harvard Graduate School of Education.
- Kari C. Nadeau, John Rock Professor of Climate and Population Studies in the Department of Environmental Health and Chair of the Department of Environmental Health at Harvard Chan School; and Professor of Medicine and Director of the Allergy, Climate, and Exposomics Laboratory at Harvard Medical School.
- Vikram Patel, Paul Farmer Professor and Chair of Global Health and Social Medicine and Head of the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School; and Professor in the Department of Global Health and Population at Harvard Chan School.
I am grateful to Dara, Kari, Stephanie, and Vikram, whose perspectives and expertise will be extremely valuable as we consider the FXB Center’s future direction and its role within the School and the University.
Once again, I would like to express my thanks to Mary T. Bassett for her service as director over the past seven years. I am pleased that she will continue her contributions to the School as a Professor of the Practice in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
With best wishes for the new year,
Andrea
