Dr. José Zubizarreta receives the 2026 Myrto Lefkopoulou Distinguished Lectureship
We are extremely pleased to announce that Dr. José Zubizarreta, Daniel C. Tosteson Professor of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Biostatistics at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, will be the recipient of the 2026 Myrto Lefkopoulou Distinguished Lectureship!
Dr. José Zubizarreta is scheduled to give an in-person lecture at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health on Thursday, September 24th.

Dr. Zubizarreta is a highly respected biostatistician whose research focuses on developing statistical methods for causal inference and improving the design and analysis of randomized experiments and observational studies. His work has important applications in health care and public policy, including evaluating the quality of care provided by hospitals and physicians, comparing the effectiveness of different treatments, and evaluating health programs.
Dr. Zubizarreta received his PhD in Statistics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2013. Throughout his career, his research has focused on developing better ways to design and analyze studies, particularly when researchers are working with observational data. He has made important contributions to matching and weighting methods, which help researchers make more accurate comparisons between groups and better understand the effects of treatments, programs, and policies. His work has been published in leading statistical journals, including the Journal of the American Statistical Association, Annals of Applied Statistics, Biometrika, and the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society. His research in medicine and health care has also appeared in publications including the Journal of the American Medical Association, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Health Affairs.
Throughout his career, Dr. Zubizarreta has received several honors for his research and contributions to the field. He was elected a Fellow of the American Statistical Association in 2022 and received the Mid-Career Excellence Award in Health Policy Statistics from the American Statistical Association in 2025. He has also received the Kenneth Rothman Award, William Cochran Award, and Tom Ten Have Memorial Award. In addition to his research, Dr. Zubizarreta is dedicated to teaching and mentoring students and young researchers.
