Biography

Dr. Carolina L. Zilli Vieira is a research associate and instructor in the department of Environmental Health at Harvard T H Chan School of Public Health (HSPH). She has built a strong and interdisciplinary scientific background in medical sciences that bridges medicine and environmental health.

She holds a Doctorate in Dental Surgery and a Ph.D. in Cardiology. Her dual training in dental and medical sciences has provided a deep understanding of the pathophysiology of diseases influenced by environmental risk factors. Her scientific expertise is grounded in three interconnected areas: 1) Epidemiology, focusing on the interaction between environmental radiation and chronic disease development; 2) Experimental and interventional research, aimed at understanding and reducing human exposure to environmental contaminants; and 3) Preventive health programs, designed to mitigate environmental and behavioral risk factors, particularly among children. In 2015, she joined Prof. Petros Koutrakis’s group at the HSPH, where she helped established a new research area to investigate the health impacts of space weather and environmental radiation exposures.
